LOCATION OF SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
Samburu national reserve is located across the Equator in North Kenya, South East of the Samburu district. The reserve is bordered by the Ewaso Ng’iro River, it’s lifeline as it is situated in a semi-arid area. The river separates Samburu and Buffalo Springs national reserve. Samburu is located 350km from Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya.

By road:
From Nairobi via the Thika and Nyeri Katerina highway. About 6-7 hours on the road.
Samburu national reserve gates: Archers’ gate, Kalama gate, West gate, Central airstrip gate and Uaso Bridge gate.
By Air:
Charter a small aircraft from Wilson airstrip in Nairobi and fly into any of the airstrips within the reserve. The domestic flight takes about 90 minutes.
The airstrips include Kalama airstrip, Samburu Oryx airstrip and Buffalo Springs airstrip.
Best time to visit Samburu national reserve
The best times to visit the national reserve are from June to September and from December to March, which is the dry season when there is a greater chance of seeing wildlife. The reserve is open all year round. The reason for this is that when it rains, the grass grows longer and various wildlife species disperse to other water sources.
October through December are the best months to go bird watching. November and the months of March through May are considered the rainy seasons.
