The animals of Samburu are varied, and the reserve is highly prized for its profusion of the Samburu Special Five—the Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, and beisa oryx—which are exclusive to this region of Kenya and can only be seen in their natural habitat. In Samburu and the neighboring wildlife reserves, like Shaba National Reserve, there are roughly 75 different species of Mammals and numerous bird species.
